Factory farmed Cornish Cross - kept in large buildings for their 8 short weeks of life, their hybrid mix causes them to grow at such a pace that they frequently suffer from heart attacks, difficulties breathing due to enlarged breast tissue, and leg deformities, often not able to walk by 6-7 weeks of age. Their fast growth and light feather coverage leaves open areas of skin subject to pecking (a behavioral disorder from being cramped that results in frequent cannabalism). They are fed medicated feed the entire time to fend of infections, however the mortality rate is often high, and dead birds are infrequently cleaned up due to automated feed and water systems.
