Facts about Islam in China 1. Islam in China has existed through 1,400 years of continuous interaction with Chinese society while Muslims living in every region of China. 2. According to Chinese Muslims traditional legendary accounts, Islam was first introduced in China in 616-18 AD by Sahaba (companions) of Prophet Muhammad: Sa`d ibn Abi Waqqas. 3. Studies estimate that over 200 million Chinese are Muslim. 4. Islam started in china before it even reached Morocco. 5. In china to be an Imam, you MUST have memorized the whole Quran (Most of the countries do this). 6. To marry one of their daughters, you MUST have memorized the whole Quran. 7. But in China there is an addition to being an Imam, you MUST have a whole hand written Quran by you, this is because for a decade during the cultural revolution in China, mosques along with other religious buildings were often defaced, destroyed or closed and copies of the Quran were destroyed along with temples, churches, Buddhist and Daoist monasteries, and cemeteries by the Red Guards. 8. The Imam would hand write the Quran for the people, when they’re Qurans were destroyed and the masses would start reading the Quran again. This fact cannot be said about any other religious book apart from the Quran. If all the Bibles and Qurans were destroyed, that would be the end of the Bible as we know it today, better yet even today they don’t agree on what the true Bible is. While as for the Quran it’s kept in the hearts of men and I am proud to be part of such a faith.
