Facts emerging from the conduct of the late Patrick Sawyer of Liberiaseems to point to the fact that he had a mission to infect Nigerians with Ebola. The man avoided Liberians, came into Nigeria and was splashing blood on health workers who were battling to save him. An account has it that he even urinated on one. A critical look at Sawyer’s last days in Nigeria suggests that he came to infect Nigerians with the deadly virus to attract international attention to the ebola scourge In Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. It is tempting and also quite logical to assume that Sawyer came with a strategy to use ebola infections in Nigeria to attract more international concern and attention to the plight of the smaller West African countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia which have lost over 900 people to this virus. And since the unsuspecting Nigerian Nurse died after Sawyer, the international media has devoted a chunk of its attention to ebola; there is intensified reportage of ebola issues. That looks like a mission achieved in his death. It is my suspicion, that Sawyer might not have acted alone; this looks like a conspiracy against Nigerians, Nigeria and the wellbeing of our nation. We expected smaller African countries, our brothers to turn to us for assistance, not to reward us for our kindness with a shipment of death. I think Mr. President and indeed the Federal Government owes Nigeria a strong statement on this betrayal by Liberia. Nigeria must investigate how Sawyer, a dying man, was arranged to come to Nigeria to afflict a healthy nation with a virus that is spreading paranoia in all our streets!
