Fair Time is Show Time! By Kathy Bramhall of Red Bluff Garden Club The Tehama District Fair’s “Wild Ride” is coming September 25-28. Entry deadlines in some Divisions have come and gone—but if you are entering in the Floral Division, deadline is September 19. We have an exciting new show for the Floral Division as Red Bluff Garden Club has joined the Tehama District Fair in supporting the Floral Division, not just decorating, taking entries and judging as in past years. In addition this year Garden Club helped Toney James re-write the Floral Division of the Exhibitor Handbook. We are supporting the entry costs—note the entry fee is only $1.00 for each entry—and are also donating new ribbons and cash prizes! Here is your opportunity to show off the hard work you’ve put into your gardening and your skill as a floral designer. Try classes for Container Plants Grown for Flowers and Container Plants Grown for Foliage. If you have African violets or Orchids in bloom—enter them! If you have lovely ferns or geraniums—enter them! If you have an unusual plant or a plant thriving in an unusual container—show us! If you have a combination planting of cacti or succulents—show Fairgoers what you do! We also have classes for Arboreal Cut Branches—enter a cut branch you’ve grown in your garden up and earn a chance to will the Arboreal Award Ribbon and the $25 premium! How easy is that?! Show off your cut flowers—we have classes for everything from asters to zinnias! Only one show this year—we receive entries only on Wednesday, September 24—10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Now take those plant materials you grow, or some you purchase and try floral design. We have a Designer’s Choice Division—you choose what plant materials and components you want in your design. The All Dry Division requires all dry plant material. The All Fresh Division requires all fresh plant material—no painting—bending, twisting, or trimming are okay. The Division for Small/Miniature Designs is always fun, all designs must be less than 8” overall. The popular Table Settings Division is back with more challenges—each design must include some dishes and/or beverage containers, a napkin and/or table cover and a floral design. Each design division has an opportunity to win a ribbon and cash prize. If you have any questions about these, call me at 530-527-9403. The Shadow Box Division is back. Give us your interpretation of “Wild Ride”, “Sea Side” & “Farmer’s Market”! Garden Club is awarding a special Artistic Crafts Ribbon for the winning wreath, wall hanging or decorated hat—remember, each entry must include some plant material. Try your hand at any/all of these and Enter the Fair! Don’t forget there is also a Junior Division for floral entries—encourage your children and/or grandchildren to Enter the Fair! The Red Bluff Garden Club is a member of Cascade District. California Garden Clubs, Inc., Pacific Region and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
