Fair Trade Fiesta Great Success On Saturday Letchworth’s Wynd - TopicsExpress

Fair Trade Fiesta Great Success On Saturday Letchworth’s Wynd was buzzing to the sound of the fabulous fair trade fiesta as fair and like minded Letchworth businesses and organisations came together to celebrate Letchworth’s renewed Fair Trade. The fiesta involved an array of Fair Trade themed activities including painting with fair trade chocolate, a human fruit machine with fruit donated by Sainsbury’s operated by local children, fruit piñatas, Still life drawing with artist Venice Shone, protest songs from local musician Mr. Speaker, and stalls from Fair Trade businesses Really Eco Baby, Fair Haven and Fair Trade Letchworth themselves. David’s bookshop hosted an evening debate chaired by Rhapsode’s director Rebecca Leek and a panel of locally active Letchworth residents. The evening covered issues of fairness in politics, family and upbringing, gender and class, in the hopes of answering the question of what a fair society would look like. The event was a real success and renewed awareness of the importance Fair Trade and working together. Fairness has always been at the heart of the Garden City and Saturday stood to reignite that principle. Philip Ross quote: “Fair trade is alive and well in Letchworth, we were so pleased to see so many people come out to support us and have the support of schools, churches and businesses in the town during the day and in the evening. Have such a solid debate around the principles. The issue and practise of fairness chimes so well with those original garden cities principles”.
