Fair contest THIS is in response to the headline, Dissolved (FT 15/3). The article reveals the decision of the current administration on the dissolution of the Public Accounts Committee. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum disclosed on page 1 of The Fiji Times that the committee has been dissolved as a prelude to the resumption of Parliament after the general election. Without making any comment on the decision of the present regime, may I, at this critical stage of our march towards a true and fairest democratic election, put this statement with a challenge to the current regime. To you, Frank Bainimarama and members of your regime, I entreat you whilst at the same time nudge on your God-given integrity, love for truth and justice, please, step down and let us walk together to the General Election pursuant to the most honourable and transparent intent of decision 170 (2) of the Court of Appeal (Civil Appeal No. ABU0077 of 20085) given on Thursday, 9 April, 2009. That decision will give everyone, including aspiring candidates for the forthcoming elections, a level playing field. To the members of the public, decision 170 (2) stated: (2) Declares that in the events that have occurred it would be lawful for the President acting pursuant to section 109(2) of the Fiji ( 1997 ) Constitution, or as a matter of necessity, to appoint a caretaker Prime Minister to advise a dissolution of the Parliament and the issuance of writs for the election of members of the House of Representatives.
