Fairs Fair. One of our readers (thanks Katie-Mae) sent me a link to her Christchurch petition . She pointed out to me that post earthquake the rents have gone up to somewhere near Auckland and Wellington prices but the accommodation supplement has not gone up to match the amounts folk get in those cities. Now, I have a problem with the accommodation supplement because if people earned a living wage and the market economy worked the way the government says it ought to work there would be no need for 1.2 Billion to be handed out each year to end up in the pockets of landlords... HOWEVER ... this is the system we have and fairs fair. Ive signed the petition and I ask you to consider signing it also - because as it stands at the moment, some low income families in Christchurch receive approx $45 less per week than in Auckland or Wellington, even though they pay the same rent and earn similar incomes. https://change.org/p/the-new-zealand-house-of-representatives-increase-the-maximum-amount-of-accommodation-supplement-available-for-the-people-of-christchurch-to-reflect-inflation-of-rental-prices
