Faithfood for the Faithful March 6, 2014 St. Colette Readings: Deuteronomy 30: 15-20; Psalm 1:1-4, 6; Luke 9:22-25 Insights: WHAT IS YOUR WORTH? Sis. Dea Joaquin, SOWER If you are a “professional Facebook observant” (or always online), you can witness friends and family flashing photos of who they are, where they are in and what they are doing at the moment. It is true, you are where your self-worth is. Often enough, we encounter dozens of “selfies” everyday, simply because we want to show the world how happy we are. Pero hanggang “selfie” na lang ba tayo? Will it always be about our self-worth? Our interests and opinions? And always for our own advantage? Today, the Gospel tells us that denying the self, is the least in the list. In this day and age, self-satisfaction is a “basic orientation” where we prioritize what the capital “I” (in sIn) delights in—worldly pleasures, temporary treasures, etc. Is this what gives you your worth? As we are in the season of Lent, let us contemplate on the Cross’ true meaning—love for God and love for our neighbor. Through the cross, let us forget ourselves for a while and find our self-worth by helping out those in need of our love and prayers. Show our “extended compassion,” As we do this, we can fully say our love for the Lord extends too. Do not contain it, nothing can be more rewarding than giving and sharing the love that is due. Prayer: Lord, let me see Your cross as a way to find my real worth. Amen.
