Chief Electoral Officer Mr Hubert Kalauni has put out a couple of public notices re the coming Niue General Election including for the candidates to apply and register. The house have now been dissolve in the last meeting with Premier Hon Toke Tufukia Talagis Government in caretaker mode until new Government is elected after the election on the 12 April. 20 seats in the Niue Legislative Assembly will be up for grap 14 village constituencies and 6 common roll. Niues political landscape can be unpredictable they said, no party system, the release of provisional results on election night will confirm who is in and who is out. Then the race start to form a Government, the one who have the support of most of the 20 MPs will become Premier whom will select 3 other MPs as Ministers to form the Cabinet as the executive decision making body of the land. Good luck to all the current 20 MPs going into the election, none announce retirement from politics, good luck also to the new ones joining the race to be in Niues Fale Fono - the meeting house of the Niue Legislative Assembly. Good luck also to all the people registered to vote, Sat 12 April where each one will exercise their democratic rights to vote - ensure your vote counts by following the instructions from the election officials (returning officers and poll clerks).
