Fall Greetings, I’m excited to announce that we will be Celebrating Rumi on the 2nd Sunday of December, our regular Dances of Universal Peace meeting day. (flier attached) Rumi is celebrated in communities all around the globe on or near the date of his “Wedding Night”—the anniversary of his death, when he joined the Beloved (God). This celebration is graciously being co-sponsored by and held at the Center for Spiritual Living, 206 North J Street, Tacoma, WA 11:00 am The Sunday Service will feature music by Sky in the Road, a sermon related to Rumi by Rev. Frances Lorenz, and will be followed by their usual social time with a light lunch. That part of the day is by donation. 1:30pm The afternoon into evening begins with the showing of a documentary film, Rumi Returning, The Triumph of Divine Passion by filmmakers Kell Kearns and Cynthia Lukas who are creating a series of films on various religious figures in the hopes of deepening interfaith understanding. This film was created in 2007 and features interviews with Akbar Ahmed, Chair of Islamic Studies at American University; Üzeyir Özyurt, a Sufi dervish born and living in Konya; Coleman Barks and Andrew Harvey, all offering insights into Rumis complex life andtimes.. A part of the cost of the program will help to fund their future film making efforts.More info: heavenearth.net/rumi_press.html 2:45 pm A not to be missed concert with Sky in the Road, Daniel Rhigher and Rachmana Wiest, featuring some of their musical compositions to words of Rumi.
