Fallacious Reasoning Lesson Many of you out there on the Internet seem to love fallacious reasoning. Who doesnt after all? It is a very good way to get your point made ... especially if you have not the slightest idea of why you hold to that point. I find it also saves work. Why try to figure out why one should have this or that opinion when you can just pick the one you like and produce a spurious argument or slogan that will be convincing .... especially to like minded people. Here is a good model for you: You can select any two issues and connect them whether or not there is any real connection. Here is an example I saw yesterday: Here we are spending money providing military resources to handle the flood of immigrants coming into the United States while our own veterans are starving. Aside from the fact that our veterans are not starving .... so lets just say being neglected ...one would have to conclude that there is a pot of money somewhere which is designated: This money can be used for veterans or to handle underage immigrants from Guatemala but not both. Obviously these are separate issues which --- valid or not --- stand on their own. They are not connected .... not dependent on one another. Handling immigrants from Guatemala is not going to impact our treatment of veterans. I certainly hope not. Pick any two issues you want and you can make the same argument: Why should be wasting all this money on schools when it could be used to fight crime. Why should we be wasting all this money on building roads when we could be using that money for increased internal surveillance programs. Why should the president be paid such a high salary when there are so many children in need. Ok, you get the picture. Go make up some new ones!
