False Prophets Read Jeremiah 6:1 through 8:22 Michelle was happy to hear her sister had finally gone to church. In fact, her sister had become quite involved in a local congregation. When Michelle visited the church with her sister, her happiness quickly turned to concern. Michelle noticed the pastor didn’t teach much of the Bible. As a matter of fact, she never saw him open it or even mention it. He taught things Michelle knew to be contrary to God’s Word. What she had hoped would be a spiritual beginning for her sister was proving to be nothing more than a social club and possibly a very dangerous one. “You are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless” (Jeremiah 7:8). The temple of Israel had been taken over by false prophets, but the Israelites believed they were safe from God’s judgment. Jeremiah warned the people that God would not spare the temple from coming judgment based solely on its “religious history.” While a spiritual history provides great heritage, we cannot live on history alone. Without commitment to the Word of God, we stand vulnerable to the lies of the enemy. Prayer Suggestion: Father in heaven, please give my church and my pastor renewed love for Your truth. Quicklook: Jeremiah 7:1–8
