Family Favorite Sloppy Joe Yield: 4-6 sandwiches 6 Tbsp ketchup 5-6 Tbsp chili sauce, to your taste ½ c water 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar 1 Tbsp brown sugar 1 tsp chili powder ¼ tsp cumin 1 tsp Dijon mustard 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1 Tbsp tomato paste 1 Tbsp vegetable oil or your preferred oil of choice ¼ c onion, diced ¼ c green pepper, diced 1 – 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 lb lean ground beef or turkey In a medium bowl, stir together the ketchup, chili sauce, water, vinegar, brown sugar, chili powder, cumin, mustard, Worcestershire and tomato paste and set aside. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat and add the onion and bell pepper and cook until softened and translucent. Add the garlic and cook for one minute. Increase the heat to medium high; add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up well with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain off the excess fat. Stir in the liquid mixture, S & P to taste, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes, or until thickened.
