Family History . . . . . . Remember the people whom you come from. . . To all Face book friends I urge you to search your family history. My dad passed away on 2001 , All I knew of my family was my Great Grandfather Rediker and grand Parents. On My Mothers side, I knew only my Grandparents and totally nothing of family origins. As Far as the Rediker family was I was told we were Dutch and Gr Gr Grandfather Simon Rediker came from Holland... WRONG WRONG. . .With the Help of a wonderful lady that I grew up with there in Graniteville. I obtain so much family information. I trace the Rediker family back 6 generations to s John Rediker born in Frelightsburg, St Armand West, and lived in Philipsburg, Que.,Canada Simon Oscar Rediker was also born in Frelightsburg, Another surprise was the census reports indicated German origin. Three towns at the top of Lake Champlain Clarenceville, Phillipsburg, and Frelightsburg the residences call them selves Palatine Germans to this day. Other names like Reynolds, Sylvester, Mosher Jung or Young and Bomdardier are all German origin. (yes Bombardier is German not French , It was the French h association in the area that the name slipped into French culture) In the 1700s during the famine in Europe along with the religious reformation Germans along the Rhine or otherwise known as Palatine Germany. Poverty and French mercenaries drove many of the German to Holland and Britain With so many refugees, Britain and Holland transported them to America There were three main communities on the Hudson River above Manhattan . The language of the Dutch and Palatine Germans were so close they had no problem communicating. Also the Dutch churches provided the refugees a place to register birth, marriages and deaths. The three main colonies were German Town, East Bank and West Bank. The British put the Germans to work to build ships stores and work the land to pay for the 3-5 year indenture. Following their contract fulfillment many moved up the Hudson River in to the Mohawk Valley to go west and on into Canada via Lake Champlain. My mothers maiden name is Eryou. Her Great Grandfather was named Prim Rioux He married one of my Gr Gr Aunts , sister to Simon Rediker. Three generations later Father and Mother were married. (That makes Third Cousins ? ? ?) Because the area on the east side of Lake Memphremagog where the family homestead still exist (Land Grant) was predominately English and names were often spelled like they sounded. Rioux ( R You) first showed up on a land title Arreau, then Arreyou and in 1897 the last land title was in the name of Prim Eryou From Here I was able to fulfill the many gaps in our family history. I went on to trace my wifes family back to Scotland and Ireland. The family tree has now more that 1500 names. The entire exercises was a wonderful fulfilling experience The REDIKER Name: Origin . . German - - - Meaning: Maker of Wheels I came across they one quotation that sums it all up. Scottish Gaelic Cuimhnichiba air na daoine bhon dthainig sibh Remember the people whom you come from.... I strongly urge you to search your family origins to know from where you came. Family Roots Family Tree
