Family, I have been in Gambia since Friday evening. I came here for the Roots International Festival. I only received my ticket a few days before departure from France and then it dawned on me I am going back to Africa again! It is special thing for an African from the Diaspora to come home. And that is pretty much how I feel, like I have come home. The people here seem relaxed and friendly. You almost feel nervous about it, like it is to good to be true, like something terrible is going to happen any second and reality is going to set. But so far, so good. I think that Africans in the Diaspora, in the United States at least, need a heaping dose of love from the Motherland. How many of us have heard from the time we come out of the womb, those Africans dont care about you, those Africans dont like you, those Africans dont respect you. But on this trip I have felt just the opposite and the feeling seems genuine. It is really nice here. It is like I am home.
