Family and friends of the Lightning Battalion: Please allow me a few moments of your time in order to clear up some of the confusion on our Battalion’s Facebook Page. The Lightning Battalion is comprised of five companies (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo Companies). On our battalion’s Facebook page we will post training events and graduation information on all five companies. Unlike the other nine Basic Combat Training Battalions on Fort Jackson, The Lightning Battalion is unique that not all our companies are conducting the Basic Combat Training mission at the same time. We have what we like to call a staggered “pick-up” schedule. That basically means each company has a different start date and graduation date. 95% of the time if a Trainee starts Basic Combat Training in one company he/she will graduate in that same company. But the other 5% may have some reason to “new-start” to another company in order to reach the goal of becoming a United States Army Soldier. Some reasons for new-start can be but are not limited to: Missing too much required training due medical issue or injury, failure of the Army Physical Fitness Test, failing Rifle Qualification, and failure to adapt to the Army way of life, just a name a few. Again, this is not everyone just a select few. The intent of this Facebook page is to provide Family and Friends a small glimpse into the transformation process of turning your sons and daughters into United States Army Soldiers. We will not be able to capture a picture of every single Trainee during every training event. Therefore in the pictures or images you do see just imagine your loved one executing that particular task. We really do appreciate the excitement and enthusiasm all of you share for our Facebook page. Please try to understand that our primary mission is to transform volunteer civilians into Soldiers in order to enable them to successfully complete Advanced Individual Training and contribute to their first units of assignment. We also encourage you to send letters of encouragement to your Trainees. Basic training is physically and mentally challenging and sometimes those letters from all of you is that last piece of motivation that will carry your Trainee over that hill. These are exciting times for all involved so please bear with us as we focus on our Training mission. Thank you and have a great day!!! Reminder: Each company has a Facebook page tailored to company specific events.
