Family day care was featured in the media this week when the ABC’s 7.30 program ran a story on child care and the need for greater access to more affordable and flexible options. Sydney family day care educator Shae Claverie was profiled and spoke passionately about the many benefits of family day care. Assistant Minister for Education the Hon Sussan Ley MP said the Government wanted to improve women’s workforce participation and would consider recommendations from the Productivity Commission’s draft report to subsidise home-based care in the family home, but only within the current regulatory framework. This follows recent media reports on Family Day Care Australia’s proposal to extend the FDC model to allow family day care educators to offer the same services they currently provide in the home of the child, under the NQF, with the support and monitoring of the family day care coordination unit.
