Family forced onto street Bulle G. Mbauruma Thursday, April 24, 2014 - 08:00 A family of eight are still living in a tent two months after they were evicted from a house they lived in for 30 years and ended up in Genesis Street in Katutura when a family member sold the house, allegedly in an underhand way. Family head Immanuel Ngunovandu (54) said the house of his late brother Rudolf Ndukireepo was sold by his sister Justine Ndukireepo without him being notified about the sale. According to Ngunovanda the battle over the house started early in 2011. At the time the municipal debt of the property led to the discontinuation of water and electricity by the City of Windhoek. Ngunovanda said he then paid off all the debts as his brother was by this time mentally disabled. He said that then Justine went behind his back, and, by taking advantage of her brother’s mental disability, forced him to sell the house. Ngunovanda maintained, “In December 2011, out of the blue we just received a letter from her (Justine) informing us to move out of the house as she was selling it. We laid charges against her as we believed the house was sold illegally and my brother said he didn’t sell the house or had any intention to do so.” Nguvanda said the fight continued till the time Ndukireepo passed away. “In some of the letters of their agreement over the house, the dates and signature differs which was something that made me more curious that there might be something behind this, he said. In March this year, we received an eviction letter with a police order to move out,” he said. According to Ngunovanda at this stage they were still waiting for judgement from the court, but threats from the police that he will be locked up forced him to leave the house. Ngunovandu said he lost a lot during their eviction, his furniture and the children’s schoolbooks were damaged by the rain, and he lost most of his documents. “Thanks to our councillor Ambrosius Kandjii who supplied us with the tent we live in, but it’s always flooded when it rains,” he concluded.
