Famous Civil Way Spy Subject of Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club Program On Tuesday, September 9, at 1:00 PM, the Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club is beginning their 2014-2015 club year with a blockbuster program. The location is the Glen Ellyn History Center at 800 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn. Annette Baldwin, well known actress and portrayer of famous women throughout American history presents her interpretation of Elizabeth Van Lew, the most effective espionage agent of the Civil War. During this performance, Baldwin as Van Lew takes her audience into her Richmond, Virginia mansion and informs them of her passionate belief that slavery was wrong and the Union must be preserved. She explains how she developed a successful spy system and became the recognized leader among the Unionists of Richmond, Virginia. There is no charge for this program, but reservations are required. It is open to guests and they should call 630-469-4516 to make a reservaiton to attend. This remarkable presentation by Baldwin puts to rest the myth of “Crazy Bet,” that history had placed on her.
