Famous saying-Follow your dreams... For me my dream was to open a shop and work on boats build a house raise a family ya know the American dream! ... Simple right? ..... I opened Boat Works just about 4 1/2 years ago when I was 21 since the day I opened I always have been blessed with work. I have met a lot of people and have had the opportunity to do a lot of awesome things. In the spring of 2010 I bought the shop Im currently in on Blairville road in the Town of Porter I figured that it would be a great place to expand my business and my dreams. Right up until I had to go before the Town of Porter Planning Board....most of the board I knew except the head of the planning board...Now let me clarify some things before I go on with this post.... First things first Im not one to speak out and or be rebellious... I believe whats right is right. But like everything in life theres a breaking point and my friends I have reached that point. You see I bought the old beat up building that was once porters very own Country Kernel Restaurant the building was in rough shape and neglected for a lot of years I was up to the task to rebuilding it and I figured hey its only going to make our town a nicer place and besides we are a waterfront community where boating is a very big part of our lives and theres no powerboat marine shops In town. I found out the hard way you cant please everyone... Like (Im not going to use his name) Our very own head of the planing board ... I went through 4 meetings (one per month) just for him to try to devise more ways to deter me from building a shop here in the town. You see this particular person who happens to be head of the planning board has been against boats and storage of trailers in town for a wile now... Hes the one responsible for all the new actions and laws with the Town and Village of Youngstown. After four months of trying the planing board allowed me to open my shop .... Under some conditions. Now you gotta understand that my land and my shop is zoned commercial. Its one of a handful of pieces of property that are zoned that way... But for some reason I find out that I have numerous complaints from the planning board about my shop and that im going to be summonsed to a hearing with the Town Of Porter Zoning Board.... I noticed about a week ago someone in a car taking pictures of my property as soon as I made eye contact with him he sped away... I find this very cowardly if you have a problem with me or my shop please talk to me in person. It was without a doubt it was in connection with the Town Of Porter and one particular gentlemen on the planning board who has had a problem with me since day one. With that being said as of July 15 I will no longer be excepting any new work as I am planning on relocating to a town that will welcome in new business and not chase them away. Thanks for your understanding and and your business its been a amazing ride I wish you all the best! Sincerely Josh Stack
