Fan Question: I have had a nearly 15 year career in the food service industry. I started at the bottom and advanced through the various kitchen positions to become sous chef and eventually chef de cuisine. I have worked in restaurants and catering operations around the world and have seen and done some pretty great things in my career. There was a time when cooking and running kitchens brought me a huge amount of joy and satisfaction. However, the realities of the life (the long hours, low pay, no respect, working holidays, difficulty advancing, moronic bosses) have really begun to get me down and I have realised that it is time for me to hang up my apron and get out. And I need to get out soon. Before I, as Bourdain put it, shave my head and climb a tower with a rifle. I know this page is followed by a lot of people who used to be chefs and got out of it for one reason or another. Does anyone have any advice for a chef looking to change careers? Thank you in advance for your help!
