Fan question!!! Please be respectful and helpful. Thanks!! I work at an assisted living home. I work with one CNA and a nurse who has a pill problem. A family member of mine lives in the facility. Last night I was visiting with this family member and she told me about some extra pills she had saved for when she needed them. My family member is NOT well enough to administer pills alone. She is in the facility for this reason. I asked her how she for them and she told me the nurses hadnt watched her take the pills. Which I know is a big deal. I told here to tell me where they were and she freaked out and got very upset thinking she was going to go to jail or something. I assured her everything was fine and called the nurse in the room because she was getting VERY upset. I told the nurse what had happened and she told me to leave! That means she was the only person in the residents room with all of these uncounted pills. So I told the CNA I work with and she went in minutes later. The nurse decided to flush the pills down the toilet and told us not to tell anyone else in the facility. Now, Im pretty sure this needs to be reported because some nurses are the cause of this. But she tried to get us scared by saying that my family member would go to jail for this. WHAT SHOULD I DO!? Talk to the DON? Or did I do my job by telling my charge nurse????
