Fantastic Foodie says: Situated in Homewood Hills shopping center is The Big Family Café serving breakfast, lunch and NOW Dinner! The first thing I noticed about Big Family Café was the warm welcoming smiles I received when I walked in. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Looking over the menu, I just could not make up my mind because I saw where breakfast was available all day. Who doesn’t just love breakfast food? I’m a fan of breakfast for dinner, so this was an especially difficult decision. BUT, I’m not everyone else, so I went for the Lunch and Dinner Menus (I must say, I’ll be going back for breakfast at lunch. There were just too many great items on that menu, from the classics to modern.) For lunch, I chose to try the Cajun Ortega Burger and substituted the chips and house made salsa for the Home Fries. (The Salsa is fantastic, by the way.) The Cajun Ortega Burger is a one third pound, house made burger with Cajun Spices, and charbroiled to your liking. The burger is rested on a whole wheat bun with green chilies and jack cheese and served right away. Any other review, I would tout how good it was, BUT this burger was INDEED one of the best I’ve ever had in Athens. It was GREAT! As for the home fries, what a great accompaniment they were to this burger, roasted potato chunks and seasoned to perfection. Much better than your typical, greasy French fry. NOW, for the crème de la crème. After much debate over how full we both were and hearing the fact that they had Black Berry Cobbler on special for the day, we suddenly found the room for dessert. Served warm and baked with chopped nuts on the top. Mmmmm. How sweet it is. Needless to say, I left happy and very full!
