Fantastic reports of soaring over the past week! Sunday was a bloody good day! Ab-initio training week: Mark Aldridge was running an ab-initio training course last week with a great bunch of guys. All 5 of them made the most of 3 full on days. Graham Johnson last flew gliders about 15years ago in the Taranaki. The current microlight pilot re-solod in OR after 3 flights. Murray Philpot jumped into MQ and the other three progressed well into their A syllabus. Peter Taylor delighted the evenings with tales of high g loading in hawk and tornado aircraft. The team stayed at the club house eating in a couple of nights to then discover the Sheffield Pub to have lovely great pub meals. Sunday was a bloody good day! Saturday became a right off but what a blessing it turned out to be. Reports of soaring on Sunday sounded like a ripper with a tonne of members out at the field to enjoy the conditions. The day consisted of a whole pile of convergence all day long. There was light southerly coming up the plains. a standard easterly joining, combined with a westerly shooting overhead = bloody awesome convergence day!. Although it wasnt text book, conditions changed quickly Wal states, with convergence and thermal lines moving constantly in land or out. Then suddenly the great lift would go soft. Mark A went south to Mt Thomas and down to Middle Rock, while many pilots - Jenny, Wal, Greg, Mike O, Gary Wakefield, TD, DK and other XC pilots went north or around the area to explore the thermal and convergence. It was an awesome day - everyone, Have never seen a day like it - Mike O, A great Nigels day - TD, Couldnt help but think I cant believe Im here, this is unbelievable - Wal Anoki Jacksch was excited to be asked to fly in the back of ZF. Attached is a write up of his memorable flight, thanks for sharing Anoki a great read :) Fantastic to see a vast range of members fizzing in these early spring conditions whether flying solo or sharing flights with others. CGC project management teams… have kicked into gear. A team of 14 people from the flying project management group are currently at work in the garage glamming up the Janus. Installing PB brand new inside panels, clear nav, polishing and buffing, new mylar, taping and more. Watch out South Island regionals, PB will be screaming through the skies. On that note CGC are hosting the 50th South Island Regionals in Omarama 15-22 Nov. Going to be a great week. Pilots can apply online through GNZ website Woah what a week of club action! Keep up the awesome work.
