Just please bring one of the following: a old whiskey glass a random surprise a recipe for home cooked bread a recipe for your favourite vegetarian meal an interesting book cookies (not necessarily home made) DETAILS ON THIS WORKSHOP: Whether you are applying for research funding, funding for art or community projects or funding to study there are things you need to consider to help your application be successful. This can be issues such as structure, tone and narrative as well as financial planning, project planning, building a team/partners or getting external support. In this session I will look at these issues and share examples of successful funding applications I have been involved in. I will highlight some of the struggles and challenges involved. The session will be informal and interactive and students will be able to share proposals they are currently working on or planning to write in order to get feedback and take home new ideas. Worksheets will be provided but it might be useful to bring a notebook. Please bring a willingness to learn and share feedback with others. About the teacher, Simon ORafferty: I am originally from Dublin but have been living in the UK for the last 9 years and working as a design researcher. I have been head of research at a design research centre and co-director of a social design agency. I have been involved in writing many funding applications, some of which were successful. I have experience in writing bids for large multi-million Euro EU projects as well as smaller grants from national organisations. I have recently been employed as an expert funding and project evaluator by the European Commission.
