Owasso Ave. one block west of Peoria Ave. Start the year off by helping us keep growing the future of our area. Usually first Thursday but postponed due to holiday. Projects underway: Cherokee School campus reopening by The Lighthouse Academy Charter School. How can you help us welcome back students to our area into this historic space that has been educating students since statehood, and even before the Turley and Tulsa School Districts merged in the mid 1930s. Monday night, Jan. 5, the School Board will be taking final action on the reopening. Come get updated and help us plan for how this school reopening can help revitalize our neighborhood, and about the needed improvements in the community surrounding the campus to make it safe and welcoming. Fire District Campaign to become a Fire District Board this year. Get any news updates on the plans and needs to help the fire department hold the election and keep growing its resources, at the very time that our aging infrastructures, older homes and commercial properties become more of a fire hazard, and as our area has become poorer and sicker with more medical needs and emergencies, we need the fire department as healthy as it can be as they are our first responders. It has been two years since the Tulsa Health Department launched its Turley project to remove unhealthy buildings and property neglect. We have helped to identify many properties over the past two years that needed attention from authorities and there are many more that continue to need attention and new ones that need included. Come bring your property addresses (for me it is still the old body shop building on North Peoria next to the fire department, and also old burned structure at 61st and N. Frankfort Ave.) that are in your neighborhoods and need work. We also have new health department initiatives for our area; we need to begin initiatives for economic development to bring in restaurant to replace those which have closed and how can we thank and support and connect those already here; get updates on Vann Industrial GreenPark, make this the year we highlight the Osage Prairie Trail for our area and get it safely lighted, and with community kiosk information along the trail and have a Trail Appreciation Day for those who use the trail and come through our community. We need to hear updates on the changes underway and potentially planned at the parks systems in our area, particularly at OBrien Park, one of our initial partners which is undergoing another change in Activity Directors and to help promote the park activities for the winter, and hear updates on the remodelling and new developments at The Welcome Table GardenPark and Orchard and Community Center. The community Christmas party was full and successful and brought joy to many in the community without access otherwise to Santa and free turkeys and other gifts; we are having our first Big Mobile Grocery Day on Friday, Jan. 9 from 11 am to noon at the Welcome Table, and on Saturday, Jan. 17 from noon to 3 pm we will be having our Free Lunch and Big Indoor Garden Party and Seed Swap and Giveaway to kick off the season for the gardenpark and orchard and to help people garden in their own properties as well as communally. And come get info and more on Martin Luther King Jr. Day Gathering at The Welcome Table for service and community and conversation and parade watching. Also the Turley Area Seniors will have an outing to Gilcrease Museum on Tuesday, Feb. 1 for lunch and tour. Also senior lunch Jan 14 at the Methodist Church and Jan. 21 at The Welcome Table. Community organizing meeting on Tuesday Jan 20 with Tulsa Sponsoring Committee An Industrial Areas Foundation organization we are a part of. See me to participate.
