Farewell Message from LTC Anderson Soldiers of the 443d Civil Affairs Battalion, The time has come for me to bid you all farewell after serving these past three years as your Battalion Commander. We have accomplished a great deal and in the process weathered much organizational change, turned challenges into opportunities, overcame every obstacle and accomplished every mission proving month in and month out that our motto COORDINATION FOR SUCCESS is more than merely words emblazoned on a unit crest. The strength of this Battalion comes from each and every one of you and your individual contributions to the Battalion’s respective Companies, teams, sections and staff. There are only a limited set of units that any of us can ever serve in throughout our Army careers. CSM Lopes and I have endeavored to make the 443d Civil Affairs Battalion a unit that you are proud to call yours. We have tried to sustain the culture of progress and taking care of our fellow Soldiers all the while meeting requirements and accomplishing the mission-which by the way we have done quite well as by all indicators we are the best unit in the USACAPOC. You have made this unit a very special part of my life and military career and I thank you all. I do not want you to stop- keep striving. Please continue to reach in all aspects of your lives-both your civilian and military careers. You are the strength of our Nation. In this, my last message, allow me to look back over my tenure here that began on July 18, 2010 highlighting a few of the many instances that truly stand out as embodying our COORDINATION FOR SUCCESS motto. When coming on board Charlie Company was well on the Road to War for service in Afghanistan. Shortly after Charlie Company arrived at Ft Dix (with our BRAC move to the Newport Naval Station looming ever closer) Bravo Company was also called to serve in Afghanistan - on short order- within five months - which by the way also coincided with a JRTC Rotation. The unit met this challenge and all personnel deployed successfully. Most importantly, all members of Charlie and Bravo Company returned home to their loved ones safely. COORDINATION FOR SUCCESS. The unit packed up and departed 885 Sandy Lane in Warwick which it had called home for fifty years and settled onto the base with the greatest of ease. We made our mark leading a successful memorialization effort that now has the Battalion and other tenants training in the SGT Micheal F. Paranzino US Army Reserve Center. Our timely arrival also coincided with the Battalion’s 60th Anniversary at the Newport Officer’s Club which brought together Alumni to include past Commanders and CSMs from across the world to celebrate so many years served so honorably in such a special unit. COORDINATION FOR SUCCESS. We have led the way in Administration, Logistics, Communications, Intelligence and Family Readiness and blazed new trails in the area of Training, Operations and Plans. In keeping with USACAPOC guidance, we elevated the Company to its rightful position. I have enjoyed conducting battlefield circulation during Battle Assemblies visiting the Companies as they trained independently of each other on schedules they developed in their own training meetings. Most recently, our expertise stood out during the Horn of Africa Road to War for HHC and Alpha Company. Moreover, most units would shy away from conducting AT here and Pre-Mobilization Training half way across the country simultaneously…but not the 443d Civil Affairs Battalion. We have realized the new MTOE and still look to Massachusetts-home to half our Soldiers. More to follow… COORDINATION FOR SUCCESS In closing, I ask you all to give the new Command Team, LTC Edwards and CSM Santiago, the same dedication, determination and drive that you have shown me and all the past Commanders of the 443d Civil Affairs Battalion. Kim and I will soon head down I-95 leaving the great state of Rhode Island and this incredible unit proud to be carrying with us a lifetime of memories gained in serving with you. Farewell. COORDINATION FOR SUCCESS LTC Anderson
