Farm-to-School Employment Opportunities! AmeriCorps WV Farm-to-School, a program of West Virginia Department of Education, is looking for 10 movers and shakers to serve with County Food Service Directors throughout the state. Members will collaborate with County Nutrition Directors to assist with implementation of Farm to School programs, coordinate relationships between farmers and schools, and encourage schools to incorporate local produce into school meals. The member may also develop production-oriented school gardens, teach students about the benefits of locally sourced foods, and coordinate field trips to farms. Full-time AmeriCorps members serve for 12 months receive a monthly living allowance (approx. $1100 per month), health insurance, college loan deferral, and an education award of $5550 upon completion to use for college or student loans. Candidates should be at least 18 years old. Service term would begin October 1, 2013, if possible. Seven (7) service opportunities, listed below, are with individual county school systems and members will provide service with that county. Cabell County Schools Wayne County Schools Kanawha County Schools Fayette County Schools Pocahontas County Schools Greenbrier County Schools Monongalia County Schools, North Elementary School The remaining three (3) service opportunities, listed below, are regional placements and members will service in multiple counties with food service directors to build farm to school capacity and infrastructure. Roane County Extension will serve as the host site and members will provide service in the following counties; Roane, Jackson, Calhoun, Gilmer, Wood, Wirt, Ritchie, Doddridge, Tyler and Pleasants Regional Service Education Agency I will serve as the host site and members will provide service in the following counties; Boone, Logan, Mingo, McDowell, Wyoming, Raleigh, Mercer and Summers.
