Farm workers to post ‘Photos from the Fields’ on social media, asking lawmakers to support Senate immigration reform bill The #FieldFotos campaign kicks off Tuesday, June 25 As the U.S. Senate continues to debate the bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill, officially known as the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (S. 744), farm workers in the fields will be using their lunch break to post “Photos from the Fields” on their Twitter and Facebook accounts, asking lawmakers to support a new immigration process that includes a roadmap to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants. The “Photos from the Fields Campaign” is organized by the United Farm Workers of America and United Farm Workers Foundation. On Tuesday, June 25, farm workers will use their lunch break to post pictures of themselves in the fields and upload them on social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, using the #FieldFotos hashtag. Supporters are encouraged to support farm workers by re-tweetting or sharing the farm workers’ posts on their social media pages. The Senate is expected to vote on S. 744 for final passage this week. Besides providing a roadmap to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the country, the bipartisan legislation also includes special agricultural provisions negotiated by the UFW, major grower associations, and Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.). An estimated two million women, men, and children work in the nation’s farms and ranches. Approximately 600,000 of these farm workers are U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents. ###
