Fascinated by the city of Lodz, Poland we raised it up to another great experience over the last weekend when we visited the UNESCO listed 2 world heritage sites from Poland – Wawel Castle in Krakow and The Wieliczka Salt Mine, located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland. Both have stood the test of times spanning many centuries, more than a million tourist visit these sites every year. There majestic charm is beyond words to describe, one thing we noticed at both the sites were the tourist guides who led us into the historical monuments, the detailed information we were given was very encouraging to know. The country has withstood the tyranny of the World War, but today is strong. We had a great experience. Alike the Wawel Castle and Wieliczka Salt Mine, there are many more monuments being cared, nurtured and presented to the citizen of the World. The ceiling of gold, great artistry, superb tapestry and the natural beauty surrounds the Castle, we also learnt about the why the armory of the soldiers were so decorated, while in the Salt mine we went into a depth of 1000 feets, witnessing the technologies of the era’s gone by which were used in 16th & 17th century, even as we were going the depth, the place just seemed to present us the beauty beneath the surface of the land, the grand hall at the depth of 1000 feets, where a wedding reception ceremony which can hold more than 500 guests, we had our lunch 1000 feets below in one such hall. The chandeliers made out of crystal clear salt were amazing, so were also the facts of how the place is used in healing the ailment of asthama. We saw a water body in the mine which is alike the Dead sea. It is to be believed that an event of bungee jumping has taken place at such a depth, this is also recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. Way to go Poland
