Fascinating Fact #7: Fragile also began Yes’s 40 year working relationship with cover designer Roger Dean. Previous Yes albums had generic cover photos. The new approach was a perfect complement to the band’s evolving sound. Dean’s first album cover work was in 1968 for The Gun. He also did the artwork for Atomic Roosters album In Hearing of.... Dean’s design for Fragile depicted a tiny planet, with a ship departing. On the back cover was the planet exploding as the ship moved further away. He continued to create covers for the band until as recently as 2011 (Fly From Here). Yes guitarist Steve Howe said, There is a pretty tight bond between our sound and Rogers art. In addition to their album covers, Dean also contributed to his brother Martyn Deans stage set designs for the band.
