Fascinating night out in the opulent Bethlehem Hotel with expensive drinks and interesting company - one guy from Brooklyn NY decided to join Rosemary & I and had hooked on to my hairstyle so told us tales of his friendship with a Ramone & a Beatle with idiosyncratic Brooklyn mannerisms that was lovely but made me titter muchly. Its an historic hotel and it was interesting seeing all the US Presidents who have stayed there including JFK & Bill Clinton. Great Christmas tree too. After that we went the other side of the tracks and Rose took me to a Bethlehem social club (St. Bernards Home Of The Good Samaritans Club, known locally as The Burners), where I was surprised at how different American dartboards differ from the European ones, and the club was surprisingly similar to traditional working mens clubs back home..... (although the music playing on the juke box was far superior over here!!!). Earlier in the day I experienced home-made burritos at Tulum in Bethlehem which was another culinary delight (I have never eaten so well before) and the day before Rose & I met her friends Diane & Chad for good conversation and food at the Nawab Indian Restaurant, also on the southside. The courtesy and generosity of these people is something else!! So last night was a good glimpse of two different types of nightlife in Bethlehem (northside & southside) & I dug both. All in all it was another great night out here in Pennsylvania and AGAIN I met some remarkably friendly people - I have to say that in all my travels I have never met so many charming and genuinely friendly people. Everyone is so keen to say hello and find out about me and also about my band. Today I have seen my only glimpse of snow (a light dusting) which has taken everyone by surprise as this place is usually quite Arctic this time of the year (it arrives just after I leave tomorrow & temperatures are set to plummet dramatically the day after I go home). Its my final full day here in Bethlehem on this trip and then the wonderful Bill Medei will kindly take me back to Newark NJ to catch a jet plane overnight tomorrow. Bill has been a real gent for the whole of my stay and I am indebted to him for his remarkable kindness, good humour, charm and also musical goodness. THANK YOU Bill. I am heading to Belfast in Northern Ireland for a stop over before arriving back in Birmingham Monday night.
