Fascinating the way truth and fiction are entangled with each other or maybe how something innocent takes on a sinister vibe because it calls to mind some terrible person or event... The disturbing events that took place in Tucson in 1966 were made notorious by the lauded article by Don Moser in Life Magazine which is included below. Also - the events inspired Joyce Carol Oates to write a story Where Are you Going, Where Have You Been soon after the incidents - which I have also included below. As it echoed through time it has inspired other authors such as Jack Ketchum who based his book THE LOST upon this true story and to come full circle....the film version of this book includes Crispian St. Peters version of Pied Piper - which took on a sinister tone after watching that movie and now....knowing why that song was chosen to be in the film and that the story was based on real events - makes the song even creepier - despite the fact that the song has nothing to do with the murders in Tucson and Charlie Schmid.
