Fashionable & Fair - helping to support local communities. Two students from De Groene Campus in The Netherlands, Manouk and Suzanne, got the opportunity to go on a work placement in Thailand, to volunteer for charities Bring The Elephant Home and the Surin Project. The girls didn’t know each other that well, but during their Asian adventure, they started to realize they have more in common than they expected. They share an immense passion for nature, animals and travelling, they love being creative and sharing their dreams and ideas of the world with each other. After their first volunteer trip to Thailand in December 2011, they came back home feeling very inspired, but useless at the same time. They decided they wanted to help the mahout families and their elephants in Surin. As these people get their main income -which isn’t a lot- from the elephant tourism industry, they realized that’s where some serious changes need to be made. So, through their own hobby -making and selling jewelry- Suzanne and Manouk aimed to benefit both the people and their elephants. Within a couple of months they decided to come up with a plan to help The Surin Project as well as unemployed women living in the connecting village. With the full support of Bring The Elephant Home, they worked out a basic project plan and came back to Thailand in May 2012. With the help of Surin Project’s leaders, they held a village meeting to introduce their idea and the following morning they started their first workshop! They now have their own website rumblehandmade where they share information about each of the projects that they support and where they sell the Thai ladies handmade jewellery. They are also on Facebook: https://facebook/RUMBLEhandmade Fashionable & Fair RUMBLE aims to provide an (extra) income for unemployed women in Thailand, as well as improving the living conditions of the elephants in the Surin Project (Surin) and Elephants World (Kanchanaburi). So, besides wearing a unique piece of jewelry, you will be supporting two good causes at once. This is where your money is going to: 80% of the profit goes back to the women 20% of the profit will be donated to one of the elephant projects. All of the women joined the project voluntarily, they sincerely enjoy making the jewelry and if they want to quit, they are free to leave. Cruelty-free & Eco-friendly RUMBLE is completely cruelty-free and as eco-friendly as possible. RUMBLE does not use real leather, bone beads or any other animal materials to create the items. We package our the products in handmade envelopes made from recycled atlases (sponsored by our local thrift store). Please take a look at their website and help to support their cruelty-free and eco-friendly Rumble (handmade with a mission) online shop.
