Fashola Asks Traditional Rulers To Create Ebola Disease Awareness: The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has asked Traditional Rulers to assist in creating awareness within their wards about the Ebola Virus Disease. In a meeting with traditional rulers, Governor Fashola said it had become necessary to involve them in the fight against the Ebola disease because of the influence they wield in their communities. The Governor, who pointed out that the disease had no known cure yet, insisted that being infected does not mean automatic death sentence. He stressed that if people could maintain good hygienic habits, the tendency to contact the virus would be minimal. He implored them to educate their people on regular washing of hands and the use of bleach to wash their floor while warning citizens not to urinate or defecate in open places. The traditional rulers were also asked to report cases of anyone manifesting any or all of the symptoms to the appropriate authorities on time so that the disease would be effectively contained. Security is another issue Governor Fashola raised. He urged them to be security conscious especially in the time of insecurity in the country. The need for the people to participate in the ongoing residents’ registration exercise was also brought to the fore, with the Governor stating that the registration would help the government plan for the number of people in the state as well as help in the collation of essential data for crime investigation and other beneficial purposes.
