Fasil Yenealem Me, my colleague Mesay and some Ethiopian politicians met Isayas Afewerki of Eritrea today at a construction site in the outskirts of Asmara. During our brief discussion, he raised a number of points regarding the past, present and future relationships between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Here are some of his words I remember from the discussion. ESAT will interview him soon. Without Ethiopia being in its rightful place , no country of the region will be stable. I have peace of mind when it comes to the unity of Ethiopia. I was the first to see the new constitution of Ethiopia, I challenged Meles on the issue of the right to secession, but he said we could only rule the country this way, then I told him, if you continue like this, we will define our relationship. One Sudanese general advised me to let Ethiopia burn, I responded that if Ethiopia burns no country of the region will be free from the fire. We were more favourable to Ethiopia than the Ethiopian government who rules the countries. The transitional period (1991) was the best opportunity we missed. I will also assume a responsibility for this We should not be a hostage of history, 25 years have lost, but we shouldnt let another 25 years, we should work hard to let the peoples of the region live in peace and prosperity. Ethiopians and Eritreans can solve their problem without a foreign interference, but the biggest obstacle, woyane should be removed
