Fasting It is Sunnah for the Muslims to fast on the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah. Allah’s Messenger Salalemlahu ‘alaihi wasallam encouraged us to do righteous deeds in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah; and indeed fasting is one of the best of deeds, ‘Allah says, “All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it.”’ - Saheeh al-Bukhari Tasbeeh, Tahmeed, Tahleel and Takbeer It is Sunnah to recite takbeer (Allahu-akbar), tahmeed (Alhamdulillah), tahleel (Laa ilaaha ill-Allah), and tasbeeh (SubhanAllah) during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. These words should be said in the masjids, homes, streets and in every place where it is permissible to remember Allah. ‘That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (reward of Hajj in the Hereafter and also some worldly gain from trade), and mention the Name of Allah on appointed days, over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice). (22:28) Qurbani: The Sunnah of Ibrahim ‘alayhis-salaam It is to be performed on the 10th, 11th or 12th of Dhul Hijjah. One may sacrifice a thousand animals on days other than these, but it will never be considered equal to a Qurbani. ‘There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Judgement with its horn, hair, and hooves (to be weighed). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart.’ - Sunan at-Tirmidhi Note: - Small Animal: Sheep and goats count as one share each. - Large Animal: Cattle and camels. The Qurbani of 7 persons is allowed with a large animal. - 1/7th Share: A seventh share of a large animal.
