Fasting and abstinence of food on Good Friday Fasting or - TopicsExpress

Fasting and abstinence of food on Good Friday Fasting or abstinence of food should be observed during this day. People need to fast and pray to contemplate the suffering of our Lord Jesus. I remember when i was in my teenage life, my mother cooked this sweet porridge or commonly known in Tagalog as bilo-bilo. While eating, my mother kept on reminding us that, if it is Holy Friday we need not eat rice but only that kind of food, because we are fasting. Then I questioned to myself and wonder, if it is fasting then how come we eat too much of this kind of food? So it is not fasting anymore, I thought. Then, I came to realize that fasting is not taking any food from this world but taking the food that comes from heaven. Jesus said Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Mat. 4:4). We need to resist or show that we are in deep sorrow with our Lord Jesus agony, suffering and death praying to Him at this hour and asking for the forgiveness for all our sins. Good Friday, is not simply a commemoration of His passion but also a celebration that Jesus won for us. We need to reflect on how we are saved by the Lamb until now because after saving us, we kept on sinning, so the Lamb cannot go back to this world in his physical body to die again for us. But because of His great mercy and love for us, He allowed himself to be offered again to the Father, that through uttered prayer, offering his body, blood, soul and divinity, the Father would still consider and may forgive us again.
