Favourite Movie Soundtracks~9 Thief Of Hearts(1984)/Fletch(1985) “Axel F” & “Top Gun Theme” were 2 great instrumentals which captured the imagination of music lovers in the mid-80s. Around the same period , Harold Faltermeyer contributed great synthesizer instrumentals on 2 other soundtracks: “Thief Of Hearts” and “Fletch”. Without a doubt, Faltermeyer was best known for his work on the soundtracks of “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Top Gun” which won him 2 Grammys. Faltermeyer began his musical career in the late 70s working with Giorgio Moroder (Donna Summer/Flashdance/Daft Punk). “Thief Of Hearts” gave him his 1st big solo breakthrough. Despite a theme song sung by Melissa Manchester (after her “You Should Hear How She Talks About You” Grammy win), the soundtrack was critically acclaimed but not successful commercially. “Fletch” suffered a similar fate despite coming after “Axel F”, with the theme song sung by Stephanie Mills(Never Knew Love Like This Before). Radio listeners in Singapore will recognize some instrumentals used by popular DJ Roger Kool for his shows: Running For Love, Diggin’ In, Fletch Theme. Personal favourites: Running For Love (Instrumental) and Thief Of Hearts (Instrumental version) ☺
