Faye Read .I just wanted to share with this group: The other night I attended a waterbirth where the baby was born completely tangled in its cord... Twice around the neck, around its arm and its body. Due to the compression it was completely unresponsive. After I untangled it, the cord was still compressed and no response from bub. Instead of clamping and cutting and going to a full on neonatal resus, I decided to milk the cord and get the blood flow going back to bub. Within a couple of seconds the baby gasped, cried and pinked up. It was instant and miraculous, with no further resuscitation required. Oxygen sats after were 100%. YAY to bubs own resuscitation equipment I cant tell you how good it felt to have this outcome, instead of what would have happened had I cut the cord. I hope this inspires more people to have the confidence to try this first as it really does work. Aristotle wrote about the same management of a compromised infant 300BC
