Fayemi plans mass arrest of LP members –Bamidele Labour Party governorship candidate, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele has alleged that Governor Kayode Fayemi was plotting to embark on massive arrest of his supporters across the state to derail the party’s focus and preparation for the June 21 governorship election. In a statement by his media aide, Ahmed Salami, in Ado Ekiti, Bamidele alleged that APC is particularly plotting to frame up those who resigned from Governor Kayode Fayemi-led government to join Labour Party . He said the party is also hiding under the violence that erupted during the LP campaign rally when the APC thugs allegedly attacked Bamidele’s supporters in Ipole Iloro Ekiti, Ilawe, Ilejemeje and Okemesi, to carry out massive clampdown on some of the high profile personalities in his party. Bamidele called on the people of the state to prevail on Governor Fayemi and APC to drop the purported plan, saying the outcome of such exercise could heat up the polity and immerse the state in unprecedented crisis. His words: “Multiple sources revealed to us that having failed to frustrate and stop us from campaigning across the state in preparation for the June 21 poll, their plan now is to open spurious and phantom allegations against some of our members. “We learned that the APC led government had commissioned some top government functionaries to start digging up the records of financial dealings of some of these affected people with the intention of ridiculing them in the eyes of the public. They are not stopping at that. Also, those who served in Ayo Fayose and Segun Oni-PDP-led governments but now playing pivotal role in Michael Opeyemi Bamidele campaign organisation are being investigated with the intention to rope them for alleged shady financial dealings while serving in government. “After this, the government will now embark of massive media propaganda to paint the LP as party of corrupt people. As much as we are not averse to the financial investigation of our members, what we frown on is harassment and seeming intimidation of perceived opponents by APC Government in Ekiti. “People should be freely allowed to choose and chart their political courses without any form of impediment or intimidation using government’s machinery. We want to make it clear that the LP will challenge such action with every available legal instrument at its disposal as nobody or party is above the law or has the right to trample on the inalienable rights of other citizens, particularly right to freely associate as enshrined in Section 36 of the 1999 constitution.”
