Fayemi to appoint caretakers for new councils Ekiti State - TopicsExpress

Fayemi to appoint caretakers for new councils Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, yesterday said that he would soon appoint transitional political functionaries for the take-off of the new 19 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs created by his administration. Fayemi, who said the new councils would enhance 搑apid development at the grassroots where the bulk of our people live, assured that all noticeable gaps in the policy would be bridged for expeditious and smooth take off of the new councils before the expiration of his tenure on October 15, 2014. The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti yesterday while signing the Council Creation Bill passed into law last week by the State House of Assembly for the creation of the new LCDAs. He refuted allegations that creation of new councils by his administration at this time was meant to set a political trap for the incoming administration in the state. Fayemi said the policy was initiated as part of the fulfillment of his administration抯 electioneering promises to the people. He added that the Assets Sharing Committee of the House had visited the affected local councils, and that reports were already before him, which he promised to implement thoroughly for the councils to come into being in due course. 揟his is a promise fulfilled following the yearning of the people. These yearning predated my coming into government in 2010. 揟he first executive governor of this state, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, attempted this policy before the end of his tenure, but it never came to pass. 揇espite this, our people never stopped requesting for additional local governments for rapid development and for political independence. 揥ith this policy, we are not just making history, but we are part of history. We have written our names in the book of history for taking this bold step. 揑 will do everything within the confines of the constitution for effective functioning of these councils before this administration effectively comes to an end, the governor said. He stated that all extant constitutional provisions were complied with in arriving at the conclusion of the exercise.
