Fazalur Rahman urges calm between Kabul & Islamabad PRESS RELEASE ISLAMBAD, July 20, 2013: Maulana Fazalur Rahman, the Chief of JUI, has said that there is dire need for creating right environment for internal Afghan reconciliation as Doha process is one side of overall Afghan reconciliation effort. According to his Spokesperson, Jan Achakzai, the Maulana said “as Sartaj Aziz, Advisor on Foreign Affairs is scheduled to visit Kabul today (Sunday), it is important to help facilitate intra-Afghan dialogue”. Referring to recent tension between the two countries, the Maulana said that Pakistan needs to make sure that its role is perceived as facilitator and enabler as such, Sartaj Aziz’s visit would help reduce tension between Pakistan and Kabul. He said that Pakistan has an important facilitating role to play not only in Doha process but also with internal Afghan reconciliation. He said that the US and other stake holders need to move quickly to work for both sides of Afghan reconciliation process, simultaneously. He also urged the US to go for CBMs particularly releasing the Taliban prisoners in Gontanamo as it will go down well in jumping start the stalled Doha process. He said that all stake holders need to realise there are many spoilers in the wings who would love to see Afghan reconciliation fail and peace and stability in the whole region remain elusive. He observed that the window of opportunity will not last long as deadline of 2014 looms closers. END
