Fear is a powerful force. It can provoke us to act in ways that we often later regret. It can also prevent us from doing things that we later wish we had done. It can keep us stuck in life - avoiding our own dreams out of fear that we might never be able to reach or keep them. Regardless of how fear affects us, God wants us to be free from it. When we put our trust in the Lord, He promises to deliver us from the enemies that threaten us. When you know the Lord is on your side, there isnt an enemy that can snatch you from His protection. David knew that. In Psalm 27 he boldly proclaims his freedom from the spirit of fear, The LORD [is] my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD [is] the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? ... 3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I [will be] confident. [Psa 27:1, 3 NKJV] There is something powerful about saying those words out loud. Davids confidence came from a relationship with God that was forged over many years of struggling alone to reach his destiny. What kind of pain must have caused him to write these words, When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the LORD will take care of me. David found a place in God that was more real to him than the love of an earthly parent. His security was in the Lords love for him. You and I can find freedom from fear through faith in God and His Word. He has promised to be our shield and defense from the enemy and all his threats. You may be facing some scary stuff right now. It might feel like God is a million miles away and you are alone in the fight. But that is exactly what the enemy wants you to believe. And its a lie. Today, Boldly proclaim with David, For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. ... [I would have lost heart], unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. I will Wait on the LORD and be of good courage, And He shall strengthen my heart! I will wait, I say, on the LORD! Psa 27:5, 13-14 NKJV]
