Fear is a very powerful weapon. When someone has an agenda that involves keeping you afraid, you should be very suspicious. Ebola is a terrible disease. Being a hemorrhagic virus, the final stages of infection can produce effects that would be very comfortable in a horror movie. Once you get it, you have a high probability of dying, but it is pretty hard to become infected. It has been sweeping through parts of Africa for cultural and structural reasons that just dont apply here.The only similarity possible in propagation is the deep distrust that some folks have in our government. Measles is for more contagious, and will kill more Americans than Ebola ever will. Ebola really needs contact to spread from person to person and blood is the best transfer material, but any physical contact can spread it. There is not usually a cough associated with Ebola, but if the patient has another infection at the same time that produces a cough or sneeze, then it is possible to have a short range aerosol that might reach 3 or 4 feet. One of the reasons that Ebola does not spread well, is that by the time it really contagious, the patient looks and acts very sick and scary. People tend to stay away. So, someone wants you to be afraid of Ebola and is hyping it, and throwing fearful half truths at you. Take a breath. You will be fine and your kids will be fine. You will not get Ebola. Now, we have to help Africa.
