"Fear of failure makes me work hard, says Shah Rukh khan" Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan on Thursday made a candid confession that he works doubly hard to maintain his stardom, which he has achieved through dogged determination, hard work and blessings of his fans. Interacting with a gathering of corporate honchos at the All India Management Association (AIMA) convention organised in the Capital on Thursday, the actor, sporting a streak of white hair for his new film Happy New Year , said he was scared of failure. “I come from a lower middle-class family. I was quite poor and experienced karkee (abject poverty), which in local parlance means getting your goods thrown out for not paying rent. Poverty leads to depression and humiliation. From an early age, I started equating poverty with failure.” The actor said it was the fear of poverty that forced him to sign Deewana, which was then offered to now Bigg Boss 7 contestant Armaan Kohli. “Similarly, Baazigar was rejected by Salman Khan and Darr offered to Aamir Khan. Once, I asked Dilip Kumar about his stupendous performance in Devdas . He confided that he did the film because Bimal Roy was offering him Rs.1 lakh.” The actor said he works 20 hours a day because he is scared of losing. “My family asks me why I do so much work. It is fear of losing what all I have attained that makes me work hard. I neither have high blood pressure nor am I a heart patient. But I get headaches when I don’t work hard.” The actor in his speech to CEOs said they need to experience failure to understand success. “Failure made me realise who are my friends. Post- Ra.One, I lost a lot of friends and fans. But after Chennai Express, I have made many enemies.”
