Fear of telephones actually exists. I dont have that, but I do have hatred of telephones to the point where it has a negative impact on my life. I loathe talking to people on the phone. I think its a control issue: the damn thing rings and Im supposed to drop whatever Im doing to answer it? I dont think so, Im far too anti-authoritarian for that. When I see my answering machine blinking, I dont play it back...ever. When the phone rings and were watching TV, my wife and daughter both announce, Phone! like it could be something important. I just say, I dont care. When I stop writing to take a call, and the person on the other end makes small talk, I roll my eyes and shake my fist at the ceiling. I dont own a cell phone, and only carry my wifes flip top when it seems like a really good idea. Someone asked me to call him over a month ago; almost every day since then Ive consciously blocked this simple act of polite behavior from my mind. Send me an email or a FB message and Ill read it at my leisure. Unless youre John R Renna, whose calls I sometimes take just because I think his dick jokes are funny. Live your life according to your cell phone, I abstain.
