Fearless Women in Turkish Kurdistan.. BBC radio interview - TopicsExpress

Fearless Women in Turkish Kurdistan.. BBC radio interview higlighting both womens centrality to the Kurdish revolution and the move away from nationalism .. but in fact Kurds here have other ideas .. most of them dont want a new state, what they want is a new society; I think that nationalism and a struggle for a niche state would be disastrous for the Middle east cos you know that there are so many different states, sects, religious beliefs, social groups living in the Middle east, so if each and every group, people, claims a state for themselves then actually all these wars for freedom would cause the end of the Middle East they have set up peoples assemblies, peoples courts and peoples security forces For year and years, for decades a separate state was the aim of the struggle so why isnt it now? We want to change our lives right and we want to act right now, we do not want to wait till Kurds have their own state. I dont think the only agenda for Kurds can be a nation state and I dont think we have the luxury to delay our dreams to a future which is uncertain all towns where BDP were elected must have two co-mayors 1 male 1 female We are not a nationalist people because we have suffered from nationalism probably more than anyone else. Thats why we want to live side by side with the Turks in a system which does not include any kind of nationalism or racism. As you know nationalism is the product of the emergence of nation state in the 1800s but by the 20thC it led to lots of wars between different nations, so nationalism caused all these problems and thats a backward idea the idea belongs to the past not to today I think there is no difference between the state, and the states violence on Kurds and my husband and my husbands violence on me. The state denied the Kurds their existance and inflcted violence on them .. We are not struggling for an independent state if we put on the table a project for a Kurdish state, then it will be very restrictive, it will be something like the Turkish state, so if you fight for an independent Turkish state you will do what your enemy has done to you bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04brrj6
