Feast Day of St. Luke, Patron of Doctors and Painters. He was a Physician from Antioch. Some historians say that he was a skillful artist especially in portraying living characters. He was also a painter, and was the first to paint an icon of the Blessed Mother. Converted to the faith, he became a fellow-worker of the apostle Paul. From St. Paul’s preaching he compiled one of the gospels. He handed down an account of the beginnings of the Church in the Acts of the Apostles.
