Feast of St Francis of Assisi in United States Friday, October 4, 2013 Many churches in the United States celebrate the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on October 4th each year. The feast commemorates the life of St Francis, who was born in the 12th century and is the Catholic Church’s patron saint of animals and the environment. It is a popular day for pets to be “blessed”. In the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi, this year the Blessing of Animals will take place at Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church on Sunday, October 6th at 2:00 p.m. Your furry friends always enjoy this! Why not plan on bringing your dogs, cats, turtles and birds to Mary’s Waterfall Grotto that afternoon? Prayers in thanksgiving to God for all of His beloved creatures will also be said.
